Psychodynamic psychotherapy involves a particular approach to the clinical relationship. This discipline of therapy is informed by awareness of a dynamic unconscious. Another aspect of this discipline involves developmental contributions to a patient’s view of themselves and others.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy involves an awareness of the patient in the moment; on his or her emotional and cognitive inner life. As a patient develops a greater understanding of his or her passions and inhibitions, he or she is more able to live life in a rich and free manner.

Our program is designed for psychotherapists who want to further develop skills in psychodynamic approaches to a patient. Our approach is heavily influenced by awareness of transference, conflict, and object relations as they influence theory and practice.

We offer a 2 year program, focused on didactic and clinical case conferences. We meet weekly for 3 hour sessions weekly through the academic year. Classes are open to practicing psychotherapists and certain students, dependent on an interview process to insure the class is right for them. Tuition for the 2008-2010 class were $800/semester. We also encourage psychotherapy supervision; this is not included in tuition.
.
Management of this program is by a Board of Directors, composed of members of 4 major local entities (in alphabetical order): Dallas Psychoanalytic Center, Dallas Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology, Dallas Society for Psychoanalytic Social Work, and University of Texas/Southwestern Medical School. Instructors are invited from these organizations by the Board of Directors as particularly suited to teach particular topics.
